CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

"Zoe has helped me enormously!"

I am a 59 year old breast cancer survivor who has worked with Zoe on an individual basis to overcome the debilitation that comes with surgery -- in my case a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction. I needed to strengthen my abdomen as well as my body in general.

Working with Zoe I have learned many of the fine points of Pilates, which helps me to gain as much as possible from each movement. I feel that I have made great progress because Zoe is very responsive to my individual needs. I think this is because of the depth of her knowledge and her great sensitivity. It's wonderful to feel stronger than ever -- even my posture has improved!

Strength from the Inside Out

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a gentle yet powerful method of strengthening, stretching & re-aligning the body. By strengthening from the inside out, the pilates technique focuses on core strengthening as a means to better support the spine & joints. The exercises are designed to heal or prevent injuries, while encouraging full range of breath & movement, and re-patterning detrimental body habits. Pilates sessions can range from challenging exercises to specific gentle movements, unique to individual needs.

Zo'La Dubnikova’s Qualifications:

Zoe's Pilates training led her through a two year certification process (completed in 2000), which included advanced training in rehabilitative applications of pilates and an extensive apprenticeship with the staff of the dancemedicine division of St. Francis Hospital. Her mentors at St. Francis drew from a wide range of healing techniques, including the Alexander method, Feldenkrais & traditional western physical therapy, which she learned to fuse into her pilates-based work.

After receiving her yoga teaching license in 1998 (Sivananda Yoga Vedanta), Zoe taught for several years while continuing to study with esteemed teachers in the Iyengar tradition. In addition, she received her massage therapy license in 1999. The bodywork modalities she has studied include Swedish, Shiatsu, Watsu, Reiki, Craniosacral & Chi Nei Tsang. The Rosen method, which she studied for two years with founder Marion Rosen, has profoundly effected her understanding of the emotional relationship to injury/chronic pain. Likewise, studying with Continuum founder, Emilie Conrad, gave her profound insight into healing under dire circumstances, such as paralysis.
